Stuck at a crossroads? Here’s why to make decisions fast

Hello Reader,

There are so many choices we have to make as service providers and entrepreneurs.

What tech platforms do I use?
What should my lead magnet/webinar topic be?
Should I write a book?
What offer should I be promoting right now?
How often should I be posting on social?

And that’s just scratching the surface. In my business, these decisions kept me stuck for over a year.

Why does this happen? I have a few theories.

Perfectionism is an obvious one. There’s a fear of making the “wrong” decision and regretting your choice which is part of our neurochemistry. Something I picked up from Katelyn Bourgoin in her recent newsletter.

A lot of us current or recovering perfectionists live a lot in our heads. Maybe sometimes we ask others for suggestions and feedback, but anxiety leads to overthinking and that leads to overwhelm.

There’s also a fear of visibility. If we focus on the details, we don’t ever have to put ourselves out there and face rejection. I’ll admit this is a huge chunk of my own story where my family of origin, school bullies, and abusive partners told me I was “too much” often enough I started to believe it.

If this is you, it gets better. Especially when you surround yourself with a supportive community.

I also think there’s a cultural component at work.

A lot of people’s marketing is focused on platforms and topics and the messaging either implies or says straight out that if you master this ONE thing, your business will prosper.

I trust that most of us know that’s not the case, but that belief and conditioning is pervasive and subconscious.

Deep down, we think all we need to do to succeed is find our one right thing. That’s why going viral is such an alluring objective.

You don’t need me to tell you that there’s no silver bullet in our marketing, but I’ll go further– the antidote to analysis paralysis is ACTION.

Action gives you information to make better decisions. It puts you in “the arena” where people who support you and want you to succeed can give you feedback.

You can’t get feedback or data on things that live in your head.

I struggled with the pricing of the half-day marketing retreat because I knew it would be high value and more comprehensive than a regular free workshop I would normally hold, but what would people be willing to pay?

So in that perspective of getting it out there instead of belaboring every decision, I decided to make it Pay What You Can (minimum $35). This information will inform my decisions moving forward when I decide to do this again.

I created this marketing retreat because I know that together we can help each other make better decisions and find out the simplest way to complete projects so you can get into action-taking mode and build momentum in your service-based business.

Will it always pan out? No.

But wouldn’t you rather know that now rather than 6 months from now?

If you’re ready for action and momentum, join me for the retreat. I’d love to support you in showing up the way you’re meant and reaching the people who need the unique value you provide.

See you there.

Live long and prosper,
Max Wilde
